Five Pop Favourites from Amy

Founding member of SHEPPARD, Amy has branched out to release her first ever solo release. With the Nothing But Wild EP coming out this Friday, she took SENSE through five pieces of art she wants you all to check out.

Maggie Rogers – Surrender

There is so much to love about Maggie’s talent. Stage presence, ethereal vocals, quirky vibes, excellent song writing. With only two proper studio albums under her belt this latest one, Surrender, is such a great follow up to her debut. I was so looking forward to it coming out.

Maren Morris – Humble Quest

Maren is one of my key inspirations for this new EP. Her vocals have gone global on pop hits like The Middle. And then she brings out an album like Humble Quest which is such a seamless blend of country and pop – again, what I aspire to as an artist in this space.

Taylor Swift – Evermore

I’m still not over this moment in pop culture; every song is perfect. To think we only had Folklore (her best ever album) followed up by Evermore just months later … This was her fifth nominated album for Album of the Year which means more of her albums have been nominated than not nominated. A true queen. (I cannot wait for her new album out in October)

Carrie Underwood – Denim & Rhinestones

Seventeen years ago, sometime during American Idol in its golden days, Simon Cowell said that Carrie would go on to win the season and go on to sell the most albums of any contestant in the history of the show; I haven’t fact checked but I think he was right. Even pre-Taylor, Carrie was truly carving the country-pop trail. When she announced this latest album I remember telling my family what a brilliant and fun name for a record it was! She’s just so talented and such a good example of someone who navigates the drama of the industry with such class.

Kacey Musgraves – Star-Crossed

Kacey has been one of my favourites for a long time now. Her songwriting and voice are beautiful… and as an artist, similar to Taylor, she knows how to make an album a moment. She doesn't bow to the pressures of streaming or video content – just beautiful music. I love this new album as a bit more of a pop crossover compared to Golden Hour (a perfect album) and I love that she's pushing boundaries but still Kacey.

Amy Sheppard’s debut EP Nothing But Wild is out Friday September 16th. Pre-order on vinyl and CD here and digital here.
