Get Up & Go with Kat
With the release of her toe-tapping debut EP Get Up & Go with Charlie Lane, drummer and chef Kat Greta takes us through the sights and tastes that inspire her.
I got to visit the Lume in South Wharf with my friend just a few weeks ago. It’s the perfect place to just chill out, while enjoying the art made by Vincent Van Gogh. It really brings back memories of my childhood – we had the print of Café Terrace at Night up on our wall when I was a kid. There was this awesome sunflower room at the Lume too, and it reminded me of the time we had to try and copy Van Gogh’s painting in art class.
OK, some would argue that a recipe isn’t exactly “art”, but I beg to differ! :) I love cooking so much, and am a chef by trade. Anyway, I’ve got this recipe by Nagi from Recipe Tin Eats. It’s super easy, and so delicious. A bunch of friends went camping down at Echuca, and my friend pulled out this absolute cracking dish.
My sister Helen is a well-known artist here on the Mornington Peninsula. She says that for her, “painting is a constant reminder of how to live her life – present, engaged, responsive and above all, free.” Actually, that sounds a lot like how I feel about writing music! We are lucky to have her paintings all over our walls at home and they are absolutely beautiful!
So, back on the food bandwagon … Maybe I'm just hungry?! Anyway, my brother makes the best burgers in town. He travelled around the USA to discover the best burger, and we often discuss ingredients in great detail. He’ll call me up and say things like, “Oh Kat, I need to talk to you about lettuce.” Then 30 minutes later we’ve moved on to the bun. His burgers remind me a lot of In-N-Out Burger from California. He has thought about EVERYTHING and it shows.
Who could ever go past the graffiti art down at Hosier Lane without taking a peek? If ever I have any international guests down, I always make sure to take them down to Hosier Lane to have a look at the colour and mayhem. It makes me feel at home, cause it’s a bit unpolished and rough around the edges. But it’s so beautiful at the same time! I just love it.
Get Up & Go is out now.
