Indie Rockers Flex Their Muscle
With the imminent release of their new EP Git It, blues rockers MILLAR JUKES & THE MUSCLE took the Now Hear This challenge and picked five pieces of art you need to check out right now.
The Midnight Gospel
Loved this show. It’s a podcast that meets animation and it gets real trippy. The themes the show explores really pull you in. Listening to a conversation and then seeing a weird story animation that compliments it feels like your brain is being pulled into two different directions. I really love the topics they cover like spiritualism, death, drug use, forgiveness and so many others. It was great to watch. Upset that there’s only one season.
Honey Tripper Tattoo
One of my favourite artists, and I’m very lucky to call her a friend. She’s an incredibly gifted artist and so amazing to get a tattoo from. She gave me my first ever tattoo but the one that means a lot to me is the robin she did on my forearm for my dad. Robins remind my mum of him so decided to get a tattoo of one. It’s really special to me and I’m glad my great friend did it. Go check her work out.
Paolo Nutini - Iron Sky
This song kicks me in the feels every time. It’s such a powerful song with one of the best samples from one of my favourite movies, The Great Dictator. I think it was Charlie Chaplin’s first speaking role in a movie and having that speech about how humanity has changed and filled with greed and hate. He says, “we think too much and feel too little,” which is completely true. For me, this song is incredible.
Bumpy - Return Home
Another great friend of mine who I’ve been lucky enough to watch master her craft. Bumpy sings effortlessly and hearing that it’s about self-discovery and connection to her ancestry is a beautiful thing. It is so powerful, and I encourage everyone to close their eyes and listen so Bumpy can take you somewhere special.
Saint PHNX
Have to mention my bros. Obviously I love them because they are my family, but I love their work ethic. They’ve toured with Yungblud, Lewis Capaldi, ARIZONA and IMAGINE DRAGONS and have just sold out the iconic Barrowlands in Glasgow next year. They wrote a song called Happy Place before our dad passed away for him, and it was one of the last songs he heard. My dad was so proud of them and instilled this belief in us that we could do anything. The song has done so well for them, and now hopefully they’re on their way to more success.
Millar Jukes & The Muscle launch their new EP at The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne on Friday the 26th of August. Get tickets here.
