Saturday night saw BAD/LOVE hit Adelaide as part of their Life Imitates Art EP Tour. The EP is on my top 10 releases for the year and so I was keen to see the songs live. Joining them were Adelaide sensations ALT. and Melbourne bands OUTLOVED, WAYSIDE and TERRA. Even though there were a few technical issues during the night it did nothing to dampen the excitement of the crowd.
TERRA opened the evening bringing their high energy stage performance with them, they are such a great band to watch live. Giving us songs like Confidence, Talk is Cheap and their latest single Frenemies it was one of the best post-restriction sets I have seen.
I hadn’t really heard of Melbourne’s WAYSIDE before tonight. These boys released their debut album ‘Shine Onto Me’ in March (Available here) and are building a steady fan base. The set was mesmerising with a chilled out vibe, I was really impressed with these boys. I keep banging on about this but if you have tickets to a show then for goodness sake get there for the opening bands! If you rocked up late to this gig you missed two amazing bands.
I think I was most excited for the next band. Melbourne’s OUTLOVED are a band that you need to get around. Having released a new single It’s All Hate the Friday prior to the gig, the crowd were definitely waiting for this one and the pit was testament to that. Vocalist Jaydon Colvin had the frenzied crowd eating out of his hand and there may have been a few guest pit vocals during the boys set. The OUTLOVED Choir also lent a hand for crowd favourites Blind & Falling and Dying to Leave. We also got to hear one of their new unreleased songs, these guys just keep going from strength to strength so keep your ears out for it.
Adelaide boys ALT. were up next. We have known about them for awhile and it’s damn good to see the rest of Australia backing these boys. The release of their incredible debut EP ‘Dysfunctional’ last year has seen the rise and rise of this band. Giving the band a hometown welcome, the crowd grew for the boys set. What I loved most was looking around the audience and seeing, what I assume, was the boy’s parents in the crowd and the pride on their faces while they sang along.
I have been a huge fan of the headliners BAD/LOVE since first hearing them back in 2019 when they dropped their debut EP ‘SIOIS’. I have seen them countless times, with their appearance at Unify 2020 being one of the highlights. I was keen to see what their latest EP ‘Life Imitates Art’ would bring to the stage. Opening with their hit Social Suicide, the BAD/LOVE crowd were treated to the song twice due to a technical issue, Alex’s bass drum having a slight hole!!
From there the boys took the set to another level thanks to the chemistry these guys have on stage. A packed floor with not much room to move did not stop the crowd from throwing their bodies around. (Damn it’s good to have gigs returning to normal) ‘Life Imitates Art’ is one the best releases so far this year. Having it delivered live only stands to confirm that. BAD/LOVE are doing amazing things and if you get the chance to catch them live, jump on it!
