LIME CORDIALE - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney

14 Steps to a Better You - Wednesday 20 April 2022

Their first live show in Sydney since 2020, alternative pop-rockers LIME CORDIALE delivered one hell of a set at a packed out Hordern Pavilion! This pit stop on the 14 Steps to A Better You tour kicked off with the smooth banger On Our Own. Looking out over the sea of screaming devotees, it’s no wonder how they’ve garnered global acclaim. Supported by 60s-styled alternative-pop dream ILUKA and the epic beyond measure TEENAGE DADS, this was a show that will live (happily) rent-free in my head forever.

The night was all in the details; from heart-print platforms to sequin-embroidered cowboy suits, this line-up could fool you into thinking you’d travelled back in time and landed in Studio 54. Stage presence was an understatement, with every artist bringing a combination of effortless confidence and zest. When it comes to LIME CORDIALE, What’s Not to Like? All puns intended, from the minute they graced the stage they had the crowd in the palms of their talented hands. Their stellar vocals, effortless musical technicality and cool-as-hell attitude attest they’re not an act to sleep on. So if life keeps throwing you lemons, we highly recommend a solid dose of LIME CORDIALE.

When it comes to the details I have nothing on Adrianne… but I just had to say something. I attended the second sold-out show at the Hordern Pavilion on Thursday 21 April as a camera operator for Sense Music Media’s unofficial partner Moshcam. Those of you that know the Hordern know what a sold out show means… 5.5 thousand people packed ear to ear all feeling the same overwhelming euphoria that comes from live music.

From the time doors opened at 6.30pm, a crowd quickly amassed that would fill any of our beloved smaller Sydney venues like Frankies, The Crowbar, or The Annadale and by the time ILUKA hit the stage the atmosphere was electric. Needless to say, any artist chosen to support LIME CORDIALE is guaranteed to crush their setlist. This four piece ensemble commanded the stage and filled the airwaves with the power and quality of a headline act. It seemed like the blink of an eye before the crowd doubled in size and TEENAGE DADS gave a dose of their unique, hard-hitting, yet refined comedic indie-punk flavour. The boys spread across a stage that seemed to double in size to match the crowd, and I was lucky enough to watch their set through the lens and see their slick moves up close.

Then, of course, came LIME CORDIALE and… OMFG. The stage doubled in depth again to reveal an awesome arrangement of diamond tiered platforms housing James’ drums, Felix’s keyboard, Nicholas’ bass, backup brass musicians and the beloved Oli and Louis fronting them all. Behind them were giant LCD panels revealing film clip graphics and real-time footage of the band on stage. The lighting was so phenomenal that it turned the Hordern Pavilion from night to day, illuminating a sea of heads and hands that danced and waved in unison to the music. I glanced up from the camera at one point to see that the crowd had grown endlessly around me, punctuated by hands in the air and people on each other’s shoulders. The sound was absolutely on point with so much body that I could often see movement through the camera lens with the beat of the drums. The atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive; that vibe you get from masses of like-minded people lost in the sensationalism of music they love. Even when the music cut out at one point, the crowd chanted to the point that they spontaneously began singing the chorus of the penultimate encore song Robbery.

If you want to get a feel for what I’m talking about, next time you see tickets to LIME CORDIALE… get one! If you want to see what I saw, keep an eye out for this one on Moshcam. It’s going to be a breath-taking film!

Huge thanks to Frontier Touring, Chugg Music and Hordern Pavilion for putting on a spectacular show!
