ROCKIN’ VOLTS - EP Review
Rock ‘n’ Roll Will Never Die - A Prelude
Written by: Kerri Ellis | Scale Records
Melbourne band, ROCKIN’ VOLTS released their self-titled EP in September last year. This music bolts out of the speakers and immediately pumps your adrenaline. It’s raw and sexy. Inciting an urge to get up on the dance-floor and rock your body to the pulsating beat. Their music says we are here to keep Rock n Roll alive. If you ever danced to a loud rock n roll band at the pub in the 70’s and early 80’s, this band will take you right back there and flood those memories back in for you. The energy is high, reminiscent of sweaty crowded dance floors at your local pub. If you have never experienced that, may you enjoy the journey from here on out.
The Review
Rockin’ Volts - EP
The lads are proud to pay homage to the real rock n rollers who paved the road for Rock n Roll here in Australia. It’s obvious when you listen to their music and sink in to their lyrics, that they are paying respect to the likes of AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, and The Angels - especially AC/DC. Hook up your speakers and play this EP at the level it was meant to be played at – LOUD.
Let’s break it down, track by track…
#1 - Rockin Volts
The title track, Rockin Volts, is a loud and rhythmic statement of who these lads are. And they want you to know exactly who they are. Just over two mins in, they begin to bring it down, centering your attention to vibe from the rhythm of the guitar. Its mean, and its sexy.
#2 - Ballbreaker
If you ever danced to Angry Anderson belting out lyrics that would break your balls, you are going to love Ballbreaker. It starts with drums and leads you into a frenzy. Your brain cells definitely stand up as this track launches. About 2 mins in, and that’s a mean guitar talking at you. The drums have the dominate say on this track.
#3 - Aint No Woman
When the bass and drums are in pocket, you know you are listening to learned musicians. This is what leads you into Aint No Woman. Enter the guitar, and you are reminded of Deep Purple’s Space Truckin’.
#4 - Let There Be Rock
The fourth track is a beauty of a cover of AC/DC’s Let there be Rock. You can just about see Angus strutting across the stage and Bon Scott belting out the lyrics. The magic has been encapsulated by Rockin Volts.
The lads have done well, emulating the great vibe that is Australian Rock n Roll. Its dirty, it’s pure, its raw rock. Simplistic heart pounding music that tears through your veins, making your legs twitch for the dance floor. Don’t resist it. Give in to it, and remember what AC/DC said “Oh let there be rock.”
