Alt-Rock Legends to Put Out their First Album in Six Years
Ahead of their national tour playing a career-spanning set, HELMET mastermind Page Hamilton has given SENSE an update on their plans to finally follow up 2016’s Dead to the World.
“We haven’t put out an album in six years, you know what I mean? I’ve been writing music, and working on my jazz stuff and working on other things, but we’re going to do a HELMET album this year. I think we’re going to record … my goal is to record before we fly down under, that’s what I’m hoping for. Yeah, we’ll see … A lot of it’s been the business, the record company. I’ve been asking my manager for like four years, “Hey, I want to make another record.” “Well, the label didn’t make enough money.” “But we have a record deal! I want to make a record.” So it’s kind of frustrating, not being a massive sales band that has songs all over the radio, which was never my goal in the first place. [Laughs] They knew who they were signing when they signed us, so hopefully they’ll come through. If not, I’ll figure something else out. I’ll sell my 1970 Orange amp. [Laughs]
During our interview, Page took us through his favourite riffs of HELMET’s 90s period, his relationship with his ex-bandmates, and reflects on his role as a guitar teacher. Check it out!
Sense Music Media is looking forward to hearing some long overdue tunes from the alt. rock titans that are HELMET. We’ll be covering the tour and release as it happens so keep an eye out. In the meantime, get your tickets!
HELMET are set to tour Australia in April.
