Revived Gold Coast Heavyweights to Play Classic Album in Full
After roaring back to life in spectacular fashion last year, selling out their first tour in 15 years, SUNK LOTO have announced four special shows playing their classic album Between Birth & Death in full.
Having released their first full length Big Picture Lies in 2000, their follow up BB&D was an uglier, more cerebral beast, and is rightly heralded as one of the finest Australian metal albums ever made. Back in 2020, frontman Jason Brown reflected on the label’s reaction to their intense new material.
“Yeah … We probably wrote maybe two or three albums worth of music in the writing of that album, and they knocked a lot of it back. The first and second batch of demos, they were just, like, “we can’t market this.” It was much more abrasive, and it was heavier, and it was probably a little bit all over the shop, structurally … We almost got the ultimatum off Sony, saying “Look, if you guys can’t come up with something that we can comfortably release, we don’t know where we can go with this.” The end product was us going back to the drawing board for the last time and going, “OK, how are we going to pull this thing together and make it marketable?” In the end, they had the singles that they wanted on that album, and they were happy with that.”
The band has also been in the studio, so keep your eyes and ears peeled over the coming months. Who knows? We might be hearing some brand new tracks onstage in October…
General tickets go on sale at 9am AEST Thursday April 6th at the link below. See you in the pit!
