The unmistakable theatrical sound of the violin steered Melbourne progressive metal magnates NE OBLIVISCARIS to charm everyone with their heavy spell. Visible waves pulsated throughout the crowd led by the evocative screams of Xenoyr juxtaposed with the clean vocals of violinist Tim Charles.

The drums of Daniel Presland were judiciously unrelenting while Brendan Brown’s fingers danced on the fretboard and the wall of sound from guitars dropped us from the safety of the cradle they created. There was something for everyone.

Technical death metal from Pennsylvania hits like a hammer and roars like a jet engine. RIVERS OF NIHIL are anything but silent (unlike the name of their opening track would suggest), the music will eat you alive and take no prisoners. Bassist and lead vocalist Adam Biggs does it with a smile as he chats candidly to the audience and makes sure everyone is involved.

From torch-lit ceremonials to a psychotic mosh-pit and a wall of sound to back it up, RIVERS OF NIHIL took everyone on one on a ride to remember.

THE OCEAN

Opening the night was THE OCEAN, an everchanging German progressive metal collective led by Robin Staps.

The audience was taken on a journey to explore uncharted depths from their 2020 album Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic, with a taste of their newer sound from their 2023 release Holocene. Explosive waves of sound coloured with vocals from Loïc Rossetti left everyone speechless.
